General Introduction

Situated in a truly enviable location, Low Birker Farmhouse offers high standard self catering holiday accommodation for up to 10 people. It is a superb location for a family gathering or celebration and the former farmhouse itself has undergone a total renovation and refurbishment in 2009. During the refurbishment they have skillfully managed to retained the character of this old Lakeland Farmhouse while introducing modern fixtures and fittings to provide very comfortable accommodation.

Low Birker is situated in an elevated position on the fell side, just above the banks of the river Esk, looking down onto the Eskdale Valley and surrounded by fells. This position must surely be one of the most stunning and peaceful locations in The Lake District. There are walks from the doorstep straight onto the surrounding fells or for gentler strolls there are numerous footpaths in the valley. The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing.

The famous Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely seven-mile journey down to the sea. There are five pubs in Eskdale, all welcoming children and serving real ales and a wide choice of good food. The nearest pub to Low Birker is the Woolpack Inn, a 15 minute walk away. Boot village with its small shop, the Boot Inn and the Brook House Inn is around a half hour walk.

Eskdale village shop, Eskdale Stores, a ten minute drive away, sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, alcohol and newspapers.

The adjoining barn known as Heavenly View Barn is currently being renovated and may be available for booking in the near future.
