| Grasmere
"In its windings we shall need, The chamois'
sinews and the eagle's wing."
William Wordsworth is inextricably linked with the Lake District
and inparticular the small town of Grasmere, where he and his family
lie under the shade of a yew tree as a tourist attraction for the
world. Such was Wordsworth standing that another great poet, Coleridge,
came to the lakes to be near his peer and superior (as he saw it)
and with it Grasmere has developed into a literary monument, the
Mount Rushmore if you like. Of course there is more to Grasmere
than the legacy left by Wordsworth, it goes without saying that
the sheer beautiful nature of the area that inspired perhaps the
most romantic poet and scribe ever to write on nature, must have
a lot more to offer.
Set in the heart of the Lake District, surrounded on all sides
by some of the most breath taking scenery this green and pleasant
land has to offer, Grasmere is a haven of beauty, a valley to cherish
and enjoy at a leisurely pace.
Whether you start out enjoying an ice cream on the village green,
or savouring some of the world famous Sarah Nelson gingerbread,
Grasmere is a picturesque place to gather your bearing before you
set out onto the fells and hills that so inspired a generation of
poets.
