| Miss Potter: a film about Beatrix Potter
The beautiful landscape that captivated Beatrix Potter and inspired her beloved children’s books is showcased in the recent film about the author’s life, Miss Potter, starring Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor.
Woven amongst romance and heartbreak, cinemagoers will fall in love with the majestic destinations featured in Miss Potter, which was shot entirely on location in The Lake District.
The film, which will be released in the Uk on January 12, 2007, tells of Beatrix Potter’s love for her publisher, Norman Warne (Ewan McGregor) and her striving towards an independent life at a time when her expected place in society was as a conformist wife. It praises her literary and artistic talent and tells the story of a woman whose life was a fascinating mix of professional achievement and private grief.
On shooting Miss Potter in the Lake District, actress Renee Zellweger notes, "It felt right filming in the Lake District. It always makes it easier to feel a character’s experience when you are surrounded with things you know were beloved to them. The Lake District was her (Potter’s) retreat."
Renee said “Just walking in the wonderful landscape of the Lake District helped me understand the character from a different perspective, one can sense the peace Beatrix Potter found there. The access to all the things she liked most, the things that inspired her, the colours that she used in her painting, the light is a little bit different, the quiet allows you to sit and take it in."
