Located in a lovely, quiet village blessed with wonderful walking, cycling and hiking, this cottage is full of beautiful original features and character in abundance.

Welcome to this charming cottage in Kirkland near Ennerdale full of beautiful original features and character. The cottage is dog friendly and sleeps 3/4 people making it ideal for couples or families to enjoy this quiet western corner of the Lake District. It sleeps three guests in two bedrooms, and a fourth guest can be accommodated on either a spare bed in the single room, or a sofa bed. The cottage has period features throughout and has cosy wood burners in the two main living rooms and the master bedroom. You will also find oak ceiling beams and a stunning conservatory overlooking the landscaped garden. There are rural views of the countryside towards the Ennerdale fells.

Ennerdale is one of the quietest and most remote valleys in the Lake District. The long deep lake provides a habitat for several rare species. Tall mountains tower over the lake whilst the head of the valley is forested and home to many species including deer, badgers, highland cattle and red squirrels. Kirkland is perfectly located for exploring Ennerdale whilst remaining within easy driving distance of other Lake District highlights including Cockermouth, Loweswater, Buttermere and the Cumbrian coastline. There are plenty of family-friendly attractions including the Lake District Wildlife Park near Bassenthwaite, an aquarium in Maryport, Go Ape at Whinlatter and the Ravenglass railway in Eskdale.

The cottage has a traditional front door with climbers growing over the porch. There is a small front garden that has been thoughtfully planted to include many beautiful shrubs and flowers. The door opens into a porch with traditional stone flooring and hanging area. An original internal door then opens into the lounge that retains many charming original features including exposed timber beams, wooden lintels, traditional sandstone inglenook fireplace with cast iron wood burner on a beautiful slate hearth. There is a chest of storage drawers, a comfortable double sofa, as well as a television.

There is a door to the hallway off which there is an archway to the kitchen and stairs to the first floor. The kitchen is fully fitted with modern units, gas hob and electric oven, Belfast sink and a dishwasher. In additional there is an integrated fridge, separate freezer and a microwave. A step leads down to the conservatory and dining area. A washer/dryer is available for guests located under the stairs.

The beautiful conservatory is oak framed with a tiled roof. Inside there is inset lighting in the floor, a cast iron wood burner, floor to ceiling windows and a side door to the garden. Sofas provide a comfortable seating area and there is a wall mounted TV with DVD player in this room.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a bathroom. The master bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe and dressing table. It features stunning exposed beams and a third wood burner. The second bedroom has a single bed. This room benefits from views across the countryside to the Ennerdale Fells.

The family bathroom features a bath, WC, wash basin, heated towel rail and a separate shower cubicle.

Outside there is access to the garden via the conservatory or via a side gate through the picket fence. The garden has been landscaped to make the most of the space and has a stunning layout of slate chipped paths, well stocked borders and trees and an outside dining table. The paths also lead through a wooden planted pergola to a lawn, decking, and stone water fountain. The garden is enclosed, although adventurous small dogs might be able to find their way out. There are wonderful views over the rural landscape and fells beyond.

Although the garden is enclosed there are some gaps where inquisitive dogs may be able to get through so isn't escape-proof for pets.

There is a lean-to log store.

Location of property worked really well for us, easy to walk or quick drive to Ennerdale gave us the access to some of the quieter areas in the Lakes and also easy access to Keswick, 30 minute drive. A lovely cosy cottage, perfect location for us to visit family who lived close by. Our dog loved running around the garden. The kitchen cupboards were full of plenty of plates, bowls etc. I cooked every evening and anything utensil I needed it was there.

Kirkland is well placed for visiting the western lakes and coast. Lots of lovely walks, St Bees Head spectacular and lots more around to visit. The cottage is darker & smaller than in photos with a real mixture of furniture. Nice kitchen but some of the equipment could do with updating, again all a bit of a mix and feels well used. Sad to say thereRead more are no recycling facilities. Steps down into kitchen and a bit of a tricky step midway between kitchen and conservatory.- take care. Hide

Lovely cottage, very peaceful location, fantastic if you want tranquility. Not too far to get shopping if needed as there are good shops in Cockermouth. Didn't need to use the fire as it was good weather. But it was good to know it was there if needed. My daughter loved the roll top Bath and took some persuading to get her out of it. The garden, asRead more lovely as it is had a couple of little points where the dogs could have surprised the neighbours if we hadn't been watching. Hide
