Harter Cottage
Description
General Introduction
Parkgate is a small working farm in the Western Lake District, set in a quiet hollow away from the noise and bustle found in many areas of the Lake District, with a few sheep, cattle and the largest herd of donkeys in the area!
The holiday cottage, offering self catering accommodation for 6, shares the farm with a no-frills campsite and four static caravans, but for those looking to visit the Lake District on a budget, the views from the cottage are outstanding, with fields and forest in the foreground and the spectacular fells of Eskdale as a backdrop. During your stay you are welcome to come and visit the farm and meet the donkeys (bring wellies, it can be muddy).
The area has plenty for all ages, wonderful walks right from the farm, an abundance of wildlife to view, the La'al ratty narrow gauge steam railway has a station just a couple of miles away and the majestic Muncaster Castle and Owl Centre is a few miles in the opposite direction. Eskdale even has its own golf course and a centre for course fishing. Scafell Pike is at the top end of Eskdale, five miles away or you can go up Scafell from Wasdale which is just a 15 minute drive away (and was voted “Best View in Britain in 2007).
