Garden Cottage (Howe Foot)
Garden Cottage is a pretty detached property full of rustic charm. Tucked away off a quiet lane and nestled amongst lush green meadows, it is a haven of peace and quiet - the perfect place for a romantic break for two.
Dating back to the 1700s it was originally a workshop for the making of oak swill baskets and has been beautifully and lovingly refurbished using traditional materials and luxury fixtures and fittings. With slate floors, cast iron radiators and oak beams throughout, every room is a delight.
The well-equipped kitchen features an oil fired Rayburn that’s constantly at cooking temperature, keeping the cottage cosy and warm. The feature oak beams and sculptured walls provide a delightfully unique place to dine. A comfortable lounge, charming double bedroom and beautiful Victorian bathroom complete the accommodation, which is all on one level. Little window seats, pretty floral curtains, comfy cushions and soft rugs add to the charming cottage feel.
Step outside to the peacefulness of the countryside with views across the meadows and up to Lowick Beacon. Relax on the raised private patio and catch the last rays of sunshine with a chilled glass of wine or take a book down to a bench alongside the beck that runs through the beautifully floral garden. Look out for brown trout, kingfishers and dippers.
The owners of Garden Cottage provide a warm welcome on your arrival with a Lake District greetings card and local treats, such as Cartmel sticky toffee chocolates. For stays over one week you’ll also receive a free book on the Lake District to take away as a memento of your stay.
If you prefer to dine out, there are several good pubs nearby serving food, two being less than a 15-minute walk away. Garden Cottage is in an ideal location to explore the Southern Lake District with plenty of good walks from the doorstep and lots to explore a bit further afield, with Coniston, Hawkshead, Cartmel and Ulverston all being only a short drive away.
