General Introduction
Set in the picturesque village of Eskdale, Damson Cottage is a fantastic holiday cottage offering self catering accommodation with splendid views across to the fells. It is handy for both the pub and the village shop, there are also hundreds of walks right from the front door either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath-house. The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing.
The famous Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely seven-mile journey down to the sea - Irton Road station is just a short walk from the Cottage - the trains can be seen from the garden. There are five pubs in the valley (the Bower House Inn is just a five minute walk away), all welcoming children and serving real ales and a wide choice of good food.
The village shop is just a ten minute walk away and sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol, newspapers and outdoor equipment and clothing.
There is full reception for mobile phones on the Orange network and some reception for others.
Greengage Cottage next door sleeps four and can be hired along with Damson Cottage for parties of eight who wish to share a holiday together.
