Cooking in Cumbria

I recently met up with Celebrity Chef Peter Sidwell and his partner in crime Dan Grimshaw.  What a beautiful cup of coffee they gave me and some home-made biscuits too.

They have a place just outside of Keswick in the Lake District where they are doing all sorts of things that may interest any of you staying in our Lake District cottages.

Cookery courses for people staying in our Lake District cottages

If you would like to visit them in their kitchen, Peter and Dan can take groups of between three to six people for a cookery course of your choice.  In the past they have taken groups trout fishing and then a trip back to the kitchen with your catch to learn how to fillet the fish and cook it.  If you’re not squeamish, you could try their butchery course – exactly what it sounds like!  Or there is cooking with pasta, creating curries, veggie options, gluten free, 500 calorie meals…  You name it, they can do it.

If there are more than six of you, why not see if they can visit your holiday cottage?  They recently visited Hazelwood in Keswick to assist a group of fifteen ladies in cooking their evening meal.

It’s brilliant thing to do if you want to get rid of the men (or women) in your group for a day, especially if it’s raining!

Outside catering in your Lake District Cottage

Dan and Peter love cooking and would be more than happy to be your chef for the evening and prepare your evening meal in your holiday cottage.  They can either cook and serve it fresh at the cottage or prepare a buffet or meal earlier on and bring it round.  Ideal if there are a group of 22 of you staying at Low Millgillhead & Croft House near Loweswater or even if there are just six of you staying at Eskin House in Keswick.

They can also sort your meals out for you every day of your holiday if you really want to get away from the grind of daily life.

They are passionate about Cumbria and the Lake District and use local ingredients as much as possible.

Freshly baked bread delivered to your Keswick cottage

This is something new that Peter and Dan are trying.  They have started baking bread, especially Cumbrian bread (try for example their beacon bread made with ale from the local brewery).  They can deliver this bread to anyone staying in our Keswick cottages – delivery days are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday but please double check this with them and order it by 4pm the previous day.

Their phone number is 017687 72112 and their website address is www.simplygoodtaste.co.uk.
