Bitt Chapel House
Once a Wesleyan chapel, Bitt Chapel House is a single storey cottage with magnificent views across rolling farmland to Wasdale and its majestic fells. The cottage is a wonderful starting point for hundreds of walks, either on the high fells of Scafell Pike and Great Gable or along the banks of the River Irt.
The Santon Bridge Inn is just a 10 minute walk away and offers free internet access and serves good food and fine ale as well as hosting the International “Greatest Liar” competition towards the end of the year. Wasdale is a five minute drive away - The Wasdale Valley was recently voted England's Favourite View and boasts England's deepest lake (Wastwater), highest mountain (Scafell Pike) and smallest church (St Olaf's).
The idyllic Eskdale Valley is only 5 minutes drive away, with hundreds of river and mountain walks. You can also take a trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway - a popular miniature railway that travels seven scenic miles to the coastal fishing village of Ravenglass. Muncaster Castle, Gardens and Owl Centre is also 15 minutes away - as well as its stunning gardens, there are activities for all the family throughout the year.
