General Introduction
Arndale Holiday Cottage is a lovely barn conversion looking out upon some of the finest scenery in the Lake District, including Great Dodd, and beyond that, Helvellyn itself. Set on a working beef and sheep farm, just off the Penrith to Keswick Road (A66) the cottage provding self catering accommodation is an ideal base for touring the rest of the Lake District. There is the peaceful atmosphere of St Johns-in-the-Vale nearby with the challenging walking country of High Rigg. Rising up behind the cottage is Blencathra which can be climbed from the doorstep. Children enjoy playing in the play area (shared with the other cottages on Doddick Farm) which has a Puffing Billy train as main attraction! The traditional village of Threlkeld is 1 mile and has two excellent pubs serving food. The bustling market town of Keswick is 6 miles and has a selection of shops, tourist attractions, pubs and restaurants. Lakeside walks at Thirlmere and boating trips on Derwent water are a must. Travelling along a pretty country lane through the Vale will bring you to the prehistoric site of Castlerigg Stone Circle which stands in a magnificent setting, then head towards Grasmere, 10 miles, Ambleside, 14 miles, Windermere, 18 miles. Ullswater, with its steamboat trips, is beautiful with dramatic scenery and is just 10 miles away.
